In the examples of the magazines I have found that they all use a strong stand out image on the front cover. This clearly show the reader and customer of the magazine what the magazine is about. The photos themselves are of famous artists or celebrities which have something to do with the music industry. The purpose of the front cover of the magazine is to inform the customer and show the genre of and the type of the magazine.  The people on the front cover are famous, eg pop stars - Harry, JZ and Bowie.  Using these pictures clearly shows the main feature story.

I also like the bold, bright fonts and colours, this also draws the eye to the magazine.  Using bright colours creates happy emotions meaning that the reader will feel good when they see it. 

The magazines contents page tends to have one large image on one side of the page with the page numbers and the other information about what is in the magazine on the other side of the contents page. The use of colours is particularly good as it draws the reader to the useful information on the page and appeals to the readers eye. The information is set out in columns this way there is enough space to put enough information about this makes enough info for the reader to want to read the magazine.

The articles and themes that are common are

• interviews with stars eg the one on the cover (these will appeal to fans because they are interested in the  music and what the star thinks and they  want to hear their opinions)
• lists of gigs which will let fans know when and where their favourite artist is playing which is useful information
•  promote and review new releases help fans decide if they want to listen to the new music and decide to buy the album
• behind the scenes or insider articles eg making of videos or songs. This will appeal to the fans of the pop star because it is exclusive access content.

They suggest that the magazine is for fans of music pop stars.

I will try to use colorful images on the front cover and through out the magazine. This will help the reader to understand the purpose and the contents inside the magazine. I shall  use bold eye catching fonts. I will use different designs and aesthetics on different pages. My magazine should contain an interview with the person on the front cover as the main feature.

Unit 3:  Assignment brief

Production of an original Sheffield based magazine

SPH Publishing are opening a publishing house in Sheffield. They are looking for some new magazines to cater for a Sheffield audience in a range of genres.

You have been asked to create four pages of a new magazine aimed at a Sheffield audience.

Genres could include:

1. Local events magazine
2. Music magazine
3. Sports magazine
4. Technology based magazine

All content produced must be original and produced by you. However any copyright- free assets may be used, but must be referenced.

As with all your coursework units:

1. ALL content must be original (i.e. photos, body copy, graphics etc.)
2. You must use desktop publishing software to successfully produce and layout your magazine pages.

 

There are four learning outcomes for this:

LO1: Be able to produce to create a proposal with sample materials for an original media product to a client brief

LO2: Be able to plan and develop pre-production materials for an original media product to a client brief.

LO3: Be able to create production materials for an original media product to a client brief.

LO4: Be able to carry out post-production techniques and processes for an original media product to a client brief.

To complete this LO, you need to complete the following:

TASK 1:

You will start this unit by analysing existing magazines to help you understand the codes and conventions of magazines, which will influence your final production

You will complete a short pre-lim task to help you develop skills in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign to create a front cover and contents page of a UTC based college magazine.

You will create a proposal that outlines your ideas for your intended magazine including:

7.    Distribution and marketing methods

i used photoshop to edit the magazine front cover and added boxes for the cover lines I used the box tool to create the boxes on the magazine as well as the magnetic lasso tool
